Azuma House
Replication Project
Students learned to use Rhino through replication of Azuma House, by Tadao Ando. Students were given the freedom to create a second panel in addition to the requirements, featuring the building in a unique way of their choosing.

Azuma House
Tadao Ando has created many bold, small homes, and Azuma House stands as his greatest feat.
The house juxtaposes its’ surroundings of wooden row houses with it’s heavy cement materials, creating individual privacy.

These panels feature an overview of Azuma House as well as a creative presentation of Azuma, named 'Azuma After Dark'.
Privacy does not constrict the spatial design, as Ando left a hole in the middle of the roof, creating a courtyard in the main area of the house, allowing an element of nature within the home.
Ando believes that existence with nature is fundamental to human life, giving priority to connection with environment, despite inconveniences of snow or rain.
The main hallway on the ground floor invites light and nature through the open roof, while also connecting to the upstairs area through the open hallway.
The second floor hallway connects the bedroom and upstairs lounge areas.
